Dr. Irwin is leading the investigation of the crime scene as a lead doctor for the Office of the Medical Investigator. It should be left open, but Dr. Irwin may be aware that Cal is the killer and if so he is helping Cal by looking the other way at some of the evidence. He is a long time colleague of Cal's and is also interested in being a friend to Cal. This crime scene is business as usual for Dr. Irwin. He is very intuitive and is relaxed about putting together the pieces of the puzzle. He can speak with confidence and authority when it comes to crime scene investigation. He speaks like a seasoned doctor and his attention is typically somewhat divided. He is close to retirement and doesn't rush; he consciously moves at a slower pace. His demeanor could be described as educated, playful, and wise. He is cordial with his colleagues and is liked and respected by coworkers. His intuition points to the fact that the crime has been performed in such a way that the killer will likely never be caught. If he is aware that Cal is the killer, he is reassuring Cal that the murder was calculated well enough that he will not be caught. Either way, he has basically closed the investigation in his mind because he's been around long enough to know that further search will be fruitless.
